We create augmented experiences for Public Art
The Concrete Labs’ Interactive App intends to make the technology available to artists across the city. The Concrete Lab team will expand the applications of this AR (augmented reality) technology and hope to see it used to add layers of interactive, narrative, or educational content to diverse artworks. In addition to recognizing characters, The Concrete Lab Interactive Art App could be used to add a second layer of artwork—using the screen to overlay artwork on top of the original piece. This secondary content could include video, animation, static imagery or text. The potential exists for a mural to become the backdrop in a video game users play on their device. The app can not only read the imagery within the artwork, but the area around it. This creates exciting opportunities for animating the landscape that surrounds the artwork. As Concrete Lab is built out, the artworks that integrate the technology will be plotted on a map and users will be able to use GPS to see what other app enabled murals are nearby—creating the opportunity for art tours or pieces that exist in multiple-locations. There will be qr codes on the artwork that will make the app accessible for IOS and Android.
